| September 24, 2004 1:00 AM

Robert Murray "Bob" Zundel, 48, died at home in Anchorage, Alaska, Sept. 20, 2004, due to ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Bob was born Jan. 10, 1956, in Watertown, S.D. He attended high school in Redfield, S.D., and graduated high school in Mandan, N.D. He went on to graduate from the University of Montana in 1982 with a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting.

After obtaining his degree in accounting, Bob went to Alaska to work for Coopers and Lybrand. In 1985, he accepted a position with Ogden Entertainment as the controller of the Sullivan Arena and Egan Convention Center. In 1988, Ogden transferred him to the Midwest to oversee the accounting departments in all their venues in the U.S., Mexico and Canada. In 1994 he returned to Alaska where he invested in small businesses and also worked as a contract CPA for Alyeska Pipeline Service Company.

Mr. Zundel was a member of AICPA, University of Montana Alumni Association, Sigma Chi Fraternity, member and past president of UAA Rebounders, member and past chairman of the Great Alaska Shootout, and former board member of Junior Achievement of Alaska. He received the Community Service Award from the University of Montana and the UAA Rebounders Service Award.

Bob was a gentle, funny, caring man who was loved by his family, his friends, and his coworkers. He was an avid outdoorsman, who always had a black Labrador companion, whether hunting, fishing or just enjoying his boat in Prince William Sound or Resurrection Bay. He loved living in Alaska and shared that love with his best friend, his wife Judy.

He was a loyal fan of the University of Montana Grizzlies and the UAA Seawolves and gave many hours of service to both. He was a member of the Great Alaska Shootout Committee and only missed one shootout during the years he lived outside Alaska. Bob was Sigma Chi and lived his life accepting others of different temperaments, talents and convictions.

He is survived by his wife, Judith Tait Zundel, of Anchorage; his mother, Katy Zundel, of Kalispell; brother and sister-in-law, Don and ReNay Zundel Jr. of Santa Rosa, Calif.; brother-in-law and wife, Robert and Shelley Tait of Tucson, Ariz.; sister-in-law and husband, Sandy and Butch Girard of Dewey; mother and father-in-law, M.E. and Bill Tait of Butte; three nephews, three nieces, one great-niece and "two much loved Labrador retrievers."

His father, Don, preceded him in death.

A celebration of life will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the Petroleum Club of Anchorage. An additional service will be held next June in Kalispell for the interment of the cremains.

Memorial donations may be given to the UAA Rebounders Club at UAA Athletics, 3211 Providence Dr., Anchorage, AK or the University of Montana Foundation, P.O. Box 7159, Missoula, MT 59807-7159.
