Big Sky blanks Bravettes in softball

MISSOULA - The Flathead Bravettes did just about everything Tuesday except score.

The Flathead softball team came through on its promise to play small ball and made plenty of things happen on the basepaths, but the visiting Bravettes simply couldn't get anyone across home plate as they fell 2-0 to Western AA Big Sky.

"We played pretty well," Flathead coach Dale Beerman said.

"Britanni (Danielson) pitched pretty well today. She kept the ball down. Her location was better today. And she's going to get better."

Danielson gave up eight hits, had two strikeouts and walked no one.

"Two unearned runs beat us," he said.

The Eagles, helped out by a Flathead error, scored one run in the fourth inning, then added a second in the sixth.

"We just lost focus a little bit in the sixth inning. You've got to stay in it for seven innings, not five or six. We're going to get tougher."

Offensively, the Bravettes did better. They had three hits and also got baserunners from a walk and a player hit by a pitch.

Brandi Boreson led the offensive effort. She was 2-for-4 with a double. Ashley Fusaro was 1-for-2 with a double and was the batter walked and hit by pitch.

"We made some things happen, but we just couldn't get anybody in," Beerman said.

"It was frustrating. We were right there. We're knocking on the door, but nobody is letting us in," the coach said.

The Bravettes play host next to the Butte Bulldogs in a doubleheader at noon and 2 p.m. Saturday.
