Flathead 'sticks' doubleheader loss on Missoula Hellgate, 10-2, 9-0

A home run, a couple of doubles and a doubleheader victory over Western AA softball foe Missoula Hellgate.

The Flathead Bravette softball team (4-4, 2-4) knocked off visiting Hellgate 10-2 and 9-0 Tuesday at the Conrad Complex.

The first game counted in the conference standings.

"The sticks were out today," said a happy Flathead head coach Dale Beerman.

"We're climbing out of the hole," he said. "The door is getting opened a little wider. We're playing a lot better," he said.

"We're all getting used to each other.

We bunted and stole like crazy. We put the ball in play and they threw it away," he added.

Brandi Boreson, Liz Dwyer and Spencyr Schmaltz were each 3-for-7 on the day. Schmaltz had a double and sophomore Leslie Quay hit her first career home run - a two-run shot to centerfield in the second game.

"(Christina) Zorn played really well," the coach said. "She dove for balls, threw kids out. She's a player."

"I'm happy," Beerman said. "But we're going back to work (Wednesday)."

The next action for the Bravettes is Saturday when they play host to Helena High. Game times are noon and 2 p.m.
