FRENCHTOWN - Whitefish suffered its first loss of the Class A softball season Friday, but the Bulldogs bounced back in style with an impressive victory at the Frenchtown Invitational softball tournament.

Whitefish, 6-1, opened tournament play by beating Anaconda 8-2 in a morning contest.

Corvallis then snapped Whitefish's five-game winning streak with a 3-1 victory in the afternoon.

The Bulldogs then finished up by drubbing Stevensville, 18-5.

"I thought the girls competed well today," said WHS coach Aaron Phillips.

Katie Hodges had the Bulldogs' lone extra base hit in the opener, a double, while Desiree Drake allowed just three hits in going the distance to pick up the win in the circle.

She struck out one and walked two.

Corvallis outhit Whitefish 9-3 and the Bulldogs stranded five runners in that contest.

"We just couldn't get the timely hits we needed," said Phillips.

The Bulldogs then slammed 21 hits in a win over Stevensville. Desiree Clarke doubled along with Steph Burt and Tessa Kalfell tripled.

The Frenchtown Invitational concludes today. Whitefish was scheduled to play in this event Friday only.

Also competing in Frenchtown is Libby. Polson joins tournament action today.

The Loggers were in action just twice, beating Hamilton, 9-4, while falling to Florence, 3-2.

Sam Schultz, 2-for-4, tripled twice in the opener while Brooke Hageness turned in solid pitching performance.

Erin Bothman, 2-for-4, doubled and had two RBIs.

Nicole Rowan, 3-for-4, paced Libby offensively in the second game.

Schultz went 2-for-4.
