Good start for FHS in tennis

HELENA - The Flathead boys and girls tennis teams advanced almost every entrant to the second day of the Helena Invitational on Friday.

"We did really well," Braves coach Buck Measure said. "We had all but one boys double team advance to day two of the tournament.

"Several kids made it through round one of the winners bracket. All of our team members are now on the consolation side of the bracket.

Play in the double-elimination tourney resumes today at 7:30 a.m.

"Everybody will be playing right away on our team," Measure said. "Those matches will be the deciding factor to see how long they last."

In girls play, Kelli Walterskirchen and Sara Newgard played the defending state champions and put up a good fight before losing. The No. 3 team of Alix Dixon and Hannah Hanes won their first round match.

On the boys side, Greg Radell and Chase Matteson dropped a tough first round match in No. 2 doubles.
