'Dogs' Peck hurls one-hitter
The Daily Inter Lake
WHITEFISH - Makayla Peck tossed a one-hitter over five innings, and Whitefish exploded for seven runs in the second inning on the way to a 10-0 win over Columbia Falls on Thursday.
Tessa Kalfell went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double and three RBIs to lead the Bulldogs (7-2 overall, 5-1 league) offensively.
"I thought our girls played pretty well in the cold weather," Whitefish coach Aaron Phillips said. "The sun was out, but the wind was howling.
"Makayla pitched the ball very well and we came out with a conference win."
Alana and Kilani Morris sparked the second-inning outburst by drawing consecutive walks, then the Bulldogs started rapping out singles to keep the inning going and the runs crossing the plate.
"A lot of things went right," Phillips said. " A bunch of singles, no huge hits, just putting the ball in play."
Katie Hodges went 2-for-3 with a triple. Kilani Morris had two RBIs, and Peck helped out with a base hit in three at-bats.
Whitefish is back in action today at Libby. Columbia Falls is at Polson next Thursday.
