Jean Caciari, 84, of Whitefish, passed away of natural causes on Sunday, April 24, 2005, at the North Valley Hospital In Whitefish.

Jean was born on Dec. 28, 1920, in Whitefish, to Frank and Teresa Caferro. She married Vince Caciari on April 1, 1940, in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. Jean worked in the treasurer's office at the county court house far many years before becoming the vendor of the Whitefish Liquor Store until her retirement.

Jean was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Women of the Moose, Granny's Club, Soroptimists, Golden Agers, American Legion, Democratic Women's Club, Altar Society and St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. She was most recently named Winter Carnival Queen of Riverside Senior Living.

Jean's family was important to her, and it showed in her generous gestures of unconditional love. She never forgot a birthday, or anniversary, and the pleasure she got from watching her grandchildren grow up was evident by her "grandmotherly bragging." Her house was always filled with the sound of her piano and the smell of the "best spaghetti in town!" Jean was an avid supporter of the Whitefish Bulldogs and the Glacier Twins.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Vince; by her parents; a sister; and a brother.

She is survived by a brother, Cecil Caferro; children, Joseph Caciari and wife, Katie, in Missoula; Dolores Lagerquist and her husband, Jack, in Idaho Falls, and Benilda Delgado and husband, Julio, in Whitefish; grandchildren, Michael Caciari, Stephen Caciari, Marya Warren, Michael and Tracy McMullan, John and Kara Lagerquist, Vinny and Jose Delgado; great-grandchildren, Hannah and Sean Lagerquist, Hailey and Anthony Warren, Vinnie Caciari, and Calab Robert Caciari.

Viewing will 2 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Austin Funeral Home in Whitefish. A Christian wake service will be 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home chapel. A Mass of the Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Whitefish with Rev. Pat Patton, celebrant. Burial will follow at the Whitefish Cemetery.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of the donors' choice in Jean's name.
