New group wants to get city government 'back on track'

Three former Kalispell City Council members aren't pleased with the direction they see city government heading, so they're forming a watchdog group of sorts.

The Kalispell City Taxpayers Association will hold an organizational meeting at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 on the lower level of the Justice Center in Kalispell.

"We hope to get more people to be interested enough to stand up and be counted," Norb Donahue said.

Donahue was the city attorney from 1968-82 and served on the council from 1996-2000.

He and former council members Loren Granmo and John Graves are concerned the city is spending too much money on projects such as improvements to the Kalispell City Airport and purchasing the Wells Fargo building for more office space for city staff.

They say those and other projects are not the best use of taxpayers dollars.

They want to form a group that advocates "getting the city back on track and being more of service to the taxpayers," Donahue said.
