Gladys Bernice Swenson Curtis, 89

Gladys Bernice Swenson Curtis, 89, died Aug. 14, 2005 at Chattaroy in Deer Park, Spokane County, Wash.

Gladys Bernice Swenson Curtis was born on June 5, 1916, in Oklee, Red Lake County, Minn., to Oscar A , Swenson and Ingoborg Emma Gumnstenson Swenson.

She was a former resident of Troy, Kalispell, and Eureka.

On May 31, 1956, she married Ralph L. Curtis and was a devoted housewife They moved to Fairbanks, Alaska, in 1958, and together set up a lumber business in College, Alaska. Gladys worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for the lumber company and also cooked at the Fairbanks Elementary School. Her husband passed away in 1998.

Gladys enjoyed playing cards, and entertaining friends and relatives. She loved to cook and bake, often making a dozen loaves of bread and several pans of cinnamon rolls or pies of every kind.

Gladys is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins. and stepchildren.

Her parents, one brother, two sisters, husband, Ralph, and two infant children have preceded her in death.

A graveside services and interment honoring Gladys will be held 3 p.m. in Kalispell at the C.E. Conrad Memorial Park on Tuesday, August 23, directed by the Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park, with her nephew, Donald Curtis, a retired pastor, officiating.

Gladys' family suggests memorial contributions to Hospice of Spokane or Meals on Wheels.
