A local man was arrested in Utah on Thursday on suspicion of burglarizing Ole's Country Store in Kalispell on Oct. 28.

Canon Byers, 19, was arrested on a Flathead County warrant in Vernal, Utah.

Kalispell police detective Sgt. Brian Fulford said Byers was the night clerk at the store. He was one of very few people who had keys to the building (locks had been changed the day before) and the combination to the alarm system.

The safe was taken from the building; it was recovered later near the Flathead River.

Fulford happened to be in Colorado Springs, Colo., after the burglary. He heard that someone with information on the burglary was there at the same time and he met that person at the airport.

"I got the evidence I needed," he said.

Fulford said less than $4,000 was in the safe when it was heisted, and the crime might not have been done solely by Byers.

"Additional accomplices are still under investigation, with more arrests to follow," he said.

Byers was arrested on $50,000 bond Thursday afternoon and will appear in court there before being returned to the Flathead.
