POLSON - Kara Huyser scored 11 points and hauled in 8 rebounds, and Tatianna Kimler added 10 points off the bench as Polson won the Northwestern A opener 51-34 over Whitefish Friday night.

"We did a nice job rebounding and we stopped them from running and made them play at our pace," Polson coach Bruce Thomas said. "We also did a nice job shutting down Ashley Ferda; that was the key."

The Pirates held Whitefish's leading scorer to only six points. Erin Greiner and Amanda Ormsby also added six apiece for the Bulldogs (2-3, 0-1) while Tracy Schwada chipped in with three points and eight rebounds.

Jen Orchard and Gracie Sartori each scored nine points for Polson (3-0, 1-0), while sophomore Jessica Bucklass added six points and strong play on the defensive end coming off the bench.

"Tonight was a good team effort," Thomas said.

Polson is in action tonight when it hosts Libby at 6 p.m. Whitefish will next take the court Tuesday, hosting Eureka at 7:30 p.m.
