Evelyn A. Pitcher, 79

Evelyn A. Pitcher, 79, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2005, at the Deaconess Medical Center in Spokane. She was born in Olga, N.D., on Aug. 18, 1926, to Henry and Veronica Denault. Evelyn came from a family of 10 children, seven older brothers and two younger sisters. Evelyn grew up and received her education there in Olga.

Evelyn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family and friends, and enjoyed taking extended nature hikes, going on bird hunting trips in an old Toyota pickup truck, family camping trips to Middle Thompson Lake, baking for guests, quilting and sewing blankets, traveling to see family, and touring the country side on the back of a Harley.

She was also an accomplished archer and quilter, winning numerous medals in both areas.

Evelyn was a proud member of Risen Christ Parish, ladies Bible study, home Bible study groups, and Risen Christ Quilters for more than 25 years. Evelyn always had freshly made tea and toast or hot cinnamon rolls ready for her guests, was a 'best friend to everyone,' and always made everyone feel welcome at her kitchen table.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; two infant daughters, her parents, and five older brothers.

She is survived by her five children, Clarene Ross and her husband, Stan, of Kalispell, John Pitcher and his wife, Kay, of Kalispell, Joann Brockman and her husband, Daryl, of Kalispell, Sandra Barnett and her husband, Ronald, of Marion, and Linda Dearinger and her husband, Robert, of Walhalla, N.D. Evelyn is survived by a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brothers, Julius Denault of Mesa, Ariz.; George Denault of Park River, N.D.; and sisters, Gloria Zueger of Seattle; and Veronica Pitcher of Park River, N.D.

Mass of Christian Burial for Evelyn will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at Risen Christ Catholic Church. Burial will be after services at Glacier Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Johnson Mortuary, with a celebration of life after visitation from 6 to 8 p.m.
