Take the Polar Bear Plunge on Sunday

Chill out at the annual Polar Bear Plunge on New Year's Day at The Raven in Woods Bay. Follow the parade starting in front of The Raven at 1:45 p.m. and proceed past the brewing company and The Sitting Duck, before returning to The Raven for the plunge into Flathead Lake.

Families are welcome to attend the event either as spectators or plungers.

If you plan to plunge, bring a towel and warm clothes to change into afterward.

Sunriser Lions host ice-fishing derby at Smith Lake

The Sunriser Lions of Kalispell are sponsoring their 35th annual Ice Fishing Derby from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at Smith Lake near Kila.

Bring the family for a chance to win prizes in several fish categories and hourly drawings.

Fifty fishing rods donated by Walleye Unlimited will be given away to the youths.

The Lions trailer will serve hot drinks, chili and hot dogs, and you can warm your hands and feet at the fire.

The cost for adults is $3; the cost for children is $2; and admission for families is $6.

All proceeds benefit Sunriser Lions youth fish-pond projects.

Senior center hosts potluck on Sunday

Kalispell Senior Citizens Center, 403 Second Ave W., in Kalispell will host a New Year's Day potluck dinner at 1 p.m. Sunday in the center.

Everyone is invited to join in the card games upstairs or movies downstairs.
