Man arrested for forgery
Kalispell police arrested a man Wednesday for alleged forgery and suspicion of counterfeiting.
Acting on a tip, officers went to a motel, where Troy McCready, 24, was staying. He reportedly spotted a detective and drove away. Officers followed him and found his car on a road near Scotty's bar. Two people there directed officers to a swampy area, where McCready was found, covered in mud, according to detective Mark Mulcahy.
McCready is charged with forging checks he created on his computer, using checks that were stolen from an Arizona dentist's office, said detective Brian Fulford.
McCready reportedly wrote at least one check, for $1,400, to a jewelry story and then pawned the jewelry for cash.
When he was arrested, "He had some counterfeit $50s on him," Fulford said. There was a computer template for counterfeits found on McCready's computer, Fulford said.
The matter is still under investigation, he said.
