James Day, 60, of Kalispell was sentenced Thursday to two years and nine months in federal prison.

Day was arrested and prosecuted along with other members of a paramilitary group called Project 7 after an investigation by the FBI ad Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Six people were charged with federal weapons crimes. The group reportedly amassed weapons and trained with them, moving them from location to location.

Local officials have said Project 7 planned to assassinate law officers, judges and others.

Day was sentenced for being a felon in possession of firearms.

He was convicted in 1992 of criminal endangerment. He violated his parole in 1997, according to prosecutors, and was sentenced to eight years in prison with all but two and a half years suspended.

In 2002, Day reportedly gave a false urine analysis sample. His probation office searched his vehicle and found a Remington bolt-action .30-06-caliber rifle and ammunition.

Day pleaded guilty to the crime. In addition to the prison sentence, Day was fined $200 and will be on supervised relief for three years.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Kris McLean prosecuted the case for the United States.
