Quartango offers up a night made for romance
Celebrate Valentine's week with a night of romantic Latin music and dance from Quartango on Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. at the O'Shaughnessy Center in Whitefish.
Based in Quebec, Quartango is composed of four classically trained musicians with a passion for tango. Quartango is Michel Fournier, piano and arrangements; Denis Plante, bandoneon (Argentinean accordion); Rene Gosselin, double bass; and Noemi Racine-Gaudreault, violin.
Teaming up with these musicians are Argentine tango dancers Roxana and Fabian, who add an exciting visual component to Quartango's performances
Quartango has charmed audiences across Canada and in Tokyo, Taipei, Paris, Sao Paulo, and New York. They stole the show at Carnegie Hall with the New York Pops in 1996 and received enthusiastic accolades for their performances at the Montreal International Jazz Festival and the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival.
For over 20 years Quatango has taken the tango to new heights. The group offers up a repertoire ranging from classic tangos to the Tango Nuevo of Astor Piazolla. The group also explores other genres, from jazz to opera to waltzes and jigs, in its own style.
Quartango has recorded five CDs, several of which have been honored with Canadian music awards. Their latest recording, "Performance," was released in July 2003.
There will be an outreach performance for Flathead Valley senior citizens on Feb. 17.
