There was a high-speed chase shortly after midnight Sunday that started on U.S. 2 in Columbia Falls.

A Columbia Falls police officer broke off the chase after speeds reached 80 mph to 100 mph on U.S. 2 east of Columbia Falls. Sheriff's deputies located and stopped the 37-year-old man near Hungry Horse and arrested him for driving under the influence of alcohol, reckless driving and eluding an officer. The man had outstanding warrants as well. The man was taken to the Columbia Falls city jail.
Early Sunday morning, Columbia Falls Police received a report of a check book and identification being stolen from a vehicle parked on A Street.
