Walgreens is on schedule for a mid-February opening of its 14,500-square-foot store at the southwest corner of the Main and Idaho intersection in Kalispell.

A drive-through pharmacy is a highlight of the new store, spokeswoman Carol Hively said.

Aging baby boomers are driving the demand for prescription drugs, and offering the convenience of a drive-through has given the chain a competitive edge, she said.

Another notable element of the new store will be extensive photograph-finishing services, including one-hour developing and digital services.

The Kalispell Walgreens will employ 30 people. Those interested in applying can go online to www.walgreens.com and get information from the careers section.

Based in Deerfield, Ill., Walgreens is publicly traded. It reported record sales and profits in fiscal 2003, earning $1.2 billion on revenue of $32.5 billion. It is the largest drugstore chain, 11th largest retailer and 45th largest company in the nation.
