For the sixth straight year, Flathead High School has won the Conway Classic Speech and Debate Tournament at Gonzaga University in Spokane.

Thirty-five teams from Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, California and Arizona participated in the three-day tournament last weekend.

Flathead scored 265 points, far ahead of second-place Mount Spokane's 75 points.

At the Saturday night awards ceremony, Gonzaga debate director Glen Frappier called Flathead speech and debate one of the finest programs he has ever seen, according to Flathead head coach Greg Adkins reported.

Flathead won nine events, highlighted by senior Nick Malinak's wins in Senior Extemp and Senior Impromptu.

Flathead, winners of the last three Montana Class AA Championships, will compete this weekend at the Magic City Olympiad in Billings. It will be the final invitational tournament before the state tournament in Helena at the end of the month.
