Flathead High School activities director Mark Dennehy is Montana's Class AA Athletic Director of the Year.

The honor was bestowed on him by the Montana Interscholastic Association of Athletic Administrators.

Dennehy is in his second year as a Class AA representative on the MIAAA board of directors. He's also a member of the Montana Coaches Association and the National Intercollegiate Association of Athletic Administrators.

He got word of the state honor in a phone call last week from association president Rollie Rieger, activities director for Belgrade schools. A nomination and voting process among the association's membership sealed the recognition for Dennehy.

Dennehy is a Butte native and earned his degree from Carroll College in Helena. He carried out his student teaching in Butte schools, where he coached football and wrestling, then began his teaching career at Flathead High 13 years ago.

He taught world history, economics and American history for the first eight years. In the five years since he was named activities director, Dennehy has overseen a successful athletic program at Flathead High.
