Robert Patrick Hilt, 58

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, 2005, at St. John's Catholic Church in Fairfield for Robert Patrick Hilt, 58, of Fairfield, who died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2005, at his home in Fairfield from complications of diabetes. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 16, at St. John's Catholic Church in Fairfield. Interment will be in the Sunset Hills Cemetery in Fairfield under the direction of Gorder Funeral Home of Choteau.

Robert was born Dec. 12, 1946, in Great Falls, the son of Cyril and Florence "Pat" (Dors) Hilt. He graduated from Fairfield High School and was pursuing a teaching degree at the University of Great Falls.

Robert had served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era and right after the service, from 1967 to 1970, he worked for the Forest Service, the state of Montana and Dan Worley as a guide and outfitter. In 1971 Bob attended farrier school and continued shoeing, leather working, making saddles and harnesses and restoring wagons until his death.

Robert enjoyed his summertime as camp cook at camps for disadvantaged children and he also enjoyed working with horses.

He is survived by his mother, Florence "Pat" Hilt of Choteau; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his father, Cyril Hilt; and a brother, Bill Hilt.

Memorials are suggested to Flathead Valley Community College.
