Emily Clemow won first place in this year's Crail-Carr Poetry Contest, the fourth annual recognition of creative writing by Flathead High School students.

Liz Shields submitted the second-place poem. Christopher Galpin, Danica Gammon, Cricket Johnston and Josh Hernandez tied for third. Fourth went to Michelle Bosick, Jamie Jacobson, Mindy Pfankuch, Sepp Steiner and Kelsi Swank.

Honorable mention was awarded to Mandy Barrett, Sarah Betthauser, Chris Bruyer, Jennifer Gikiere, Evan Hogue, Sarah McDougal, Shea Koness, Kyle Evan Paskell, Nichole Peters, Ann Piersall, Kirk Rasmussen, Ryan Remington, Alisha Shatto and Vanessa Walsten.

Contest sponsor Bob O'Neil analyzed more than 475 entries for the 2004 event, which concluded Dec. 17, 2004, then presented awards in a ceremony at the Flathead High library Thursday afternoon.

Cash prizes went to the top four award placings, and all winners received an anthology of poetry and a book of the winning poems.

Both the anthology and book of winning poems were sponsored and printed by Insty-Prints.

The awards honor former FHS teachers Ted Crail and Della Ve Carr for their contributions to writing at Flathead High School.
