Workshop aims to connect nonprofits

| January 19, 2005 1:00 AM

An event scheduled Feb. 3 brings leaders of nonprofit organizations together for a workshop and opportunity to network.

A coalition called the Nonprofit Development Partnership scheduled the workshop and a reception from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Museum at Central School in Kalispell.

Lex Blood, a member of the partnership, said the coalition formed in 2003 to provide training for nonprofit organizations in Northwest Montana.

"Networking is an important part of our mission along with formal and informal training," he said.

At this event, certified brain gym instructor Linda Grinde will present the workshop called "Why Your Brain Likes Nonprofits." The reception includes beverages and hors d'oeuvres.

Blood said the coalition aims to attract executive directors and board chairs of nonprofit organizations concerned with education, arts and culture, conservation, economic development and health and human services.

He said the group encourages leaders from both Flathead and Lincoln counties to attend the event.

A founder of the Glacier Institute, Blood said the coalition works to prevent burnout among the nonprofit leadership in Northwest Montana. He said people give huge amounts of time and energy to keep nonprofits alive with very little funding.

Nonprofits "are an important part of the fabric of the community," he said.
