Account opened for victim of domestic violence

| January 21, 2005 1:00 AM

A bank account was opened Thursday for a woman whose story of domestic abuse moved people who heard about her plight.

Teri Lee, 32, told her story when her husband, Christopher, was sentenced Wednesday for breaking into her house and choking her while she slept. Police are investigating Christopher Lee for allegedly trying to hire someone to kill her while he was in jail, awaiting trial.

As Christopher Lee begins a 40-year prison term, Teri Lee is raising their four children, ages 3, 4, 8, and 10. She's going to college to obtain a degree in education.

"She's been through a lot," said Tammie Fleury, who opened the benefit account. "I don't want to see her have to struggle."

Callers to the Daily Inter Lake and the Flathead County Attorney's Office have asked about ways to help Lee. One caller was a former teacher of hers.

Fleury opened the account at Mountain West Bank. Donations should be directed to the Teri Lee account.
