Dixieland band at the Christian Center

| January 21, 2005 1:00 AM

The Flathead Valley Concerts Association offerings return on Jan. 28 at the Christian Center in Kalispell with Southern Fried Jazz, an eight-member Dixieland band that offers a refreshing take on Dixieland music.

The band includes three horns and four rhythm instruments along with a female vocalist, all led by veteran trumpeter Don Edwards whose career includes backing some of the Dixieland greats, including Louis Armstrong and the World's Greatest Jazz Band.

Each performance of the Southern Fried Jazz Band, featuring spirited renderings of classic Dixieland tunes, evolves into an experience to be remembered long after the band has left the stage. Open-ended to some degree, its program always includes a flavorful recipe of instrumentals accented with vocals and stirred with lots of seasoning and spontaneity. These ingredients have launched the band from the Piedmont foothills of North Carolina into the national spotlight in short order.

The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door for $???

The Flathead Valley Concerts Association is holding a meeting on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the St. Matthew's rectory meeting room in Kalispell. The entrance to the basement room is on the north side of the building.
