Braves finish 3rd at Missoula meet

MISSOULA - Megan Lavin, Jacey Stahlberg and Justine Scaccia all won individual events and those three teamed up with Jenna Newgard to win the 200 medley relay as Flathead won the girls portion of the Missoula Invitational swim meet on Saturday.

The Bravettes finished the one-day meet with 88 points to 80 for second-place Bozeman.

Great Falls High was third with 46.

Lavin tied Tess Carlson of Missoula Sentinel for first in the 50 freestyle. Both were timed in 26 seconds.

Stahlberg posted the top time in the 100 freestyle (57.15) while Scaccia was clocked in 1:01.49 to win the 100 backstroke.

Scaccia also picked up a second in the 200 individual medal. Jenna Thiel was a runner-up in the 100 breaststroke.

The Bravettes added two more seconds in the 200 and 400 freestyle relays.

The FHS boys, 33 points, came in third.

Bozeman topped the field with 129 and Missoula Hellgate was second, 87.

Brian Brady paced the Braves with a second place time in the 100 freestyle. He also took a fifth in the 100 backstroke.

Taylor Streit was third in the 100 breaststroke.

The Braves added another third in the 200 medley relay.

The FHS boys and girls close out regular-season action Saturday at the Helena Invitational.

The state swim meet is Feb. 11-12 in Great Falls.
