The odds were nearly 200 to one against the Flathead County Library winning a specially-bound copy of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince with an autographed bookplate by author, J.K. Rowling. After all, 9000 libraries nationwide entered the sweepstakes and only one entrant from each state could win.

But Friday afternoon, Scholastic Corporation, publisher of the book, listed the Flathead library on its website as the Montana winner.

"We haven't been contacted by Scholastic yet," Kim Crowley, Flathead County Library director, said Saturday. "And of course I haven't actually seen the book."

Crowley entered the contest online several months ago and then promptly forgot about it.

"I don't think anybody here ever thought this would be a productive entry," said Barbara Knutson, references service librarian.

The library currently has 22 circulating copies of the Potter book.

"I am totally excited," Crowley said. "I don't know what we're going to do with the book, but we'll definitely put it on display. We're not going to circulate it, but there are lots of other possibilities."
