The Flathead County Sheriff's Office was busy with animal problems.

A major traffic jam Thursday was prompted by a bear on the highway near Coram. An elk with a broken leg was reported on U.S. 2 west of Kalispell. Four horses were reported stolen on Steel Bridge Road. On Resthaven Drive, a resident complained about a neighbor's trash practices that attract bears. Loose pigs were reported on Morningview Drive, and a loose pony was reported on Whitefish Stage Road. An animal warden was called when a bat was found in a Kalispell bank.

A dispute on Blanchard Lake Road is about whether one man should be cutting hay on an easement. A domestic problem was reported at Greenwood Trailer Park. On Poplar Drive, a resident agreed to be more neighborly and keep the music volume down. There were two complaints about noisy Pomeranians on Columbia Falls Stage Road. A fight was reported in Bigfork. Lawn ornaments on Reed Lane were spray painted and a house was hit with eggs on Bear Trail.

In Bigfork, a man reportedly got out of his vehicle and started screaming at a bus group of elderly people who were there to shop.

At Wal-Mart, three people held down a "violent shoplifter" until deputies arrived.

On Bear Trail, a resident has a suspect in the theft of a backpack and a tool from his vehicle. The thief took the lug nuts while he was at it.

Someone reported three people jumping off the Flathead bridge on Montana 82. Nothing illegal about that, a deputy said.

Problems in Hungry Horse were concentrated around the school, where teenagers reportedly picked on younger children. Later, children there threw rocks at cars. A group of 20 to 30 youths gathering at the school was reported Thursday night.

They weren't happy campers at Abbott Bay, where abusive language was reported at a campsite.

A man stumbling in the road at Bierney Creek was just trying to get home.

A man who had been kicked out of Lucky Lil's hung around outside, making a clerk uneasy.

A counterfeit money order for $8,000 was reportedly paid for a vehicle sold online.

A woman waited until now to report a May 4 assault that included some pushing at the Lakeside post office.

A disturbance between a grandmother and a mother erupted at Spruce Park, where the former said the latter left children unattended. A woman reported her ex-boyfriend knocking on the window on West Valley Drive.

Graffiti was reported on Pleasant Valley Drive and at Les Schwab Tires on U.S. 2.
