A man meeting with his probation officer was arrested Friday for allegedly taking $18,000 worth of methamphetamine with him.

Frank Hazel, 29, was charged with possession of drugs with intent to distribute.

"That's the first time I've ever seen anybody bring drugs with them to the Adult Probation and Parole office when they were on probation," said Kevin Burns, supervisor of the Northwest Drug Task Force.

He said an officer there decided to search Hazel's vehicle and reportedly discovered five ounces of methamphetamine under the seat. Another man with Hazel fled, Burns said.

Hazel was recently convicted of possessing the drug in Lincoln County and is awaiting sentencing on that charge. He has been the subject of an investigation by the drug team, Burns said.

People on probation and parole know they must submit to searches of their homes, vehicles, places of work, and their bodies.

"I was dumbfounded" that Hazel would take drugs to a place where he could be searched, Burns said.
