Man charged in federal court

| June 1, 2005 1:00 AM

A man who was resentenced last week for a 1994 homicide now faces federal charges.

Chad Rothacker, also known as Chad Rothacher, served about a year in prison for killing Ron Raper, 31, behind the Palace Bar in Whitefish in December 1992. Rothacker was 20 then.

He's going back to prison for violating probation by possessing alcohol and drugs.

He also has been charged for the federal crime of being a felon in possession of firearms.

Rothacker has been living in Big Sky, running a successful construction business.

A probation and parole officer searched Rothacker's house during a routine check and found weapons and alcohol - both violations of his probation.

Rothacker was originally sentenced in 1994 to 16 years, with 10 suspended.

On Thursday, District Judge Kitty Curtis resentenced Rothacker, 31, to seven years with two suspended.

He appeared in federal court Tuesday, charged with the weapons offenses.
