Jean Klein-Syth, 87

Jean Klein-Syth passed from this world Thursday, June 2, 2005, in the presence of her family.

Jean was born in Boston on Jan. 26, 1918. She was the second child of Harry O. and Mona Viola McKee.

The McKees moved to Montana and homesteaded on Charley Creek in Richland County. Jean attended school in Andes, Mont., and in 1933 moved with the family to New Deal, Mont., during the construction days of the Fort Peck Dam. This is where she met and married Norbert Klein on Dec. 22, 1936.

In the early 1940s, they moved to the Flathead Valley north of Columbia Falls where they homesteaded and raised their two sons, Gordon and John.

Jean enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She also enjoyed her many hobbies, crafts and gardening.

She also had several different careers with her favorite being working at the Whitefish Flower Shop.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Norbert Klein in 1982 and Bernard Syth in 1999; two sisters, Myrna in 1972 and Olive in 2005.

Jean is survived by her brother, Bill; her sister, Melva; her sons, Gordon and John; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place and graveside services at Glacier Memorial Gardens will be at a later date still to be determined. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Hagler-Anderson Funeral Home.Larry W. Johnson, 62

Larry W. Johnson, 62, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2005, at Kalispell Regional Medical Center in Kalispell. He was born on June 15, 1942, in Noonan, N.D., to Warner and Selma (Peterson) Johnson.

At a young age, Larry's family moved to West Glacier and he began his education in Columbia Falls, eventually graduating from Columbia Falls High School. Larry joined the Army and served two years before returning to the valley.

He married Susan Frith on Aug. 20, 1966, in Whitefish. Larry went to work for the state highway department operating heavy equipment. After about eight years he transferred to the Flathead County Road Department where he worked for 15 years before being medically retired.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, fishing and horseback riding. He also coached baseball for many years.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Johnson, of Kalispell; three sons, Donald, Charles and Stephen, all of Marion; three daughters, Theresa Harberd of Houston, Texas; Brenda Harding of Kalispell; and Julie Hanson of Minot, N.D.; one sister, Lola Mackin, of Spokane; one brother, Roger Johnson of Coram; 18 grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Larry will be from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Johnson Mortuary.

A rosary service will be at 5:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, at the Immaculate Conception Chapel. Requiem Mass services will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 8, at the Immaculate Conception Chapel with the Rev. David Hewko as celebrant. Burial will follow at the C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery.
