Speedy Robinson breaks track mark

Seems Jason Robinson has plenty of speed to burn.

For the second time in three weeks, Robinson set a new track record at Montana Raceway Park.

Last Saturday, Robinson was timed in 14.32 seconds to set a blistering pace for the Limited Sportsman class. That bettered his old standard of 14.42 on the high-banked oval set back on May 22.

After technical inspection, he was declared the track record holder again.

Robinson also took home the win in the trophy dash, beating out Dirk Lybeck, the 2004 points champ.

Robinson finished second to Cory Wolfe in the heat race.

In the main event, 35 trips around the oval, Robinson had to leave the track with engine problems on the 22nd lap.

Then with only two laps remaining, Micah Sampson and Danny Morris got into a little battle and both cars got locked together. After many attemps to get them apart, they finally took out the blow torch to separate them.

Both cars and drivers made it back in the lineup to finish the race. Wolfe won the main with Lybeck second and Morris third.

Lonnie Barnett, competing for the first time this season, came in fifth. Barnett is also racing the Flathead Legends.

For the Sportsman, the top three point runners are Wolfe with 185, Robinson with 179 and Lybeck with 176.

In the new Bandolero division, John Hillicker set the fast time with a 15:85 and finished first in the trophy dash and won the main for the third straight race of the season. Colby Hagen took his first win of the season in the heat and placed second in the main.

The top three point runners for the Bandoleros are Hillicker with 197, Hagen with 179 and Trevor Delay with 168.

In the fast growing Compact division, Tim Corbett set the fast time, 15:35. He also finished second in the trophy dash and the fast heat and won the main event. Tim Davis and Gene Streitz took home the wins in the trophy dashes.

Jeremy Hayes beat out rookie driver Colton Larson in the slow heat.

The battle in the fast heat was between veteran drivers Streitz and Corbett with Streitz taking the win.

In the main, Tim Davis had his best finish of the year, finishing second in the main. For the fourth staight week, Adam Kinkle finished in the top 5 with a fourth place finish. The top three point leaders for the compacts are Streitz with 248, Davis with 213 and Kinkle with 208.

The Flathead Legends were the main event and Alex Lessor was a dominating force.

He timed in with a 14:816 go. He followed that by winning the fast heat and main event.

Sampson took the win in the trophy dash. Lonnie Barnett won the slow heat.

The top three point leaders for the Legends are Lessor with 190, Grosswiler with 185 and Scott Dalla with 158.

This weekend is the Canadian American Shootout 150 with the Super Late Models, Flathead Legends and Bombers.

Time trials are at 6 p.m. and racing at 7. For more information, visit the raceway Web site www.montanaracewaypark.com or call 257-RACE.
