An 18-year-old Kalispell man died of an accidental gunshot wound Monday night.
Flathead County Deputy Coroner Ernie Freebury on Tuesday identified the man as Jordan Alstad.
"The cause of the accident was from inappropriate and unsafe gun handling," Freebury said.
Alstad was playing with a 9-mm gun when it discharged into his head.
Freebury said Alstad's girlfriend was present and his mother was in the house at the time of the accident. There is no question it was an accident, he said.
His family wanted something positive to come from the tragedy and allowed some of his organs to be donated, Freebury said.
The Northwest Tissue Center flew in a surgical team for that purpose.
Alstad recently graduated from high school.
