Muriel Gertrude Young Everly, 91
Muriel Gertrude Young Everly, 91, passed away at Lake View Care Center in Bigfork, Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005. Born Nov. 17, 1913, in West Somerville, Mass., the daughter of Frank and Sarah Ryan Young, she spent her early life in New England. Her father owned a meat market in Boston not far from the Old North Church. Summers were spent in Vermont and New Hampshire.
Muriel was a gifted artist, both as an oil painter and wood carver. During World War II, she worked in an optical laboratory in Boston making lenses for binoculars and other optics destined for use in the war. She met her husband, Charles Everly, when he was touring the laboratory while he was in the Navy. They were married in January of 1943.
After the war and following their marriage, they made their home in Ohio where Charles taught in the Bellville and Clear Fork School System from the 1940s through the 1960s. After raising her children, Muriel returned to work as a dental technician. Following Charles' retirement, they moved to the Flathead Valley near Kalispell, where she spent the remainder of her life.
She was preceded in death by Charles; and by her brother, Boardman Young.
She is survived by her daughter, Muriel Everly, of Kalispell; son, Clark Everly, and his wife, Jan, of McCall, Idaho; granddaughters, Susie of McCall, and Sarah and Heather Everly in Maryland; grandson, Sean Patterson, of Columbia Falls, great-grandsons, Jordan and Deven Patterson; one surviving brother-in-law, Armand Everly of Mansfield, Ohio; and special niece, Judy Groves Christian and her husband, Evan, of West Mansfield, Ohio.
Cremation has taken place. At some point in the future her ashes will be placed, according to her wishes, on one of the beautiful mountains she so loved and appreciated.
