Alcyone May "DeeDee" Hembd, 86

Alcyone May "DeeDee" Hembd, 86, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2005, at the Brendan House in Kalispell.

She was born on May 5, 1918, in Hoquiam, Wash., to George E. and Alice G. (Gage) Wiggins. DeeDee received her education in Hoquiam, graduating from high school there in 1937.

She married William Sudderth in 1946. After his death in 1964, DeeDee moved to Montana to be with her sister.

On May 16, 1970, she married Harold Hembd. DeeDee worked with insurance companies from American Guaranty to Beneficial Life. She was a member of the Eagles Auxiliary and managed the Kalispell Seniors Center from 1990 to 1997.

DeeDee was preceded in death by her parents; one son David Sudderth; one sister, Gertrude Zaputil; and two brothers, Robert and David.

She is survived by her husband, Harold, of Kalispell; five stepsons, Richard and Daniel, both of Kalispell, Steve of Seattle, Gary and wife, Shelly, and Dennis, all of Redlands, Calif.; one brother, George D., and wife, Barbara, of Lexington, N.C.; a stepbrother, Win Wilsie, and wife, Carolyn, of Ketchikan, Alaska; a sister, Ruth LaFrance, and husband, Bill, of Oroville, Wash.; a beloved friend, Karen Vanderkolk; 11 stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.

Graveside services for DeeDee will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, at the Glacier Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Eddie Nye officiating.
