Dr. Evan W. Schear, 82
Brigadier General USAF retired Evan W. Schear, 82, of Kalispell, passed away on March 9, 2005, at Immanuel Lutheran Home. He was born March 18, 1922, in Columbus, Ohio, and was raised in Westerville, Ohio. After graduating from Otterbein College, he attended medical school at Duke University.
He married Ann McGuire of Columbus, Ohio, on June 27, 1945.
He became a board certified general surgeon and spent over 30 years in the military. He served in Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Germany and at several stateside bases. His last assignment was as commander of David Grant Medical Center at Travis AFB in California.
After retiring Ann and Evan moved to Helotes, Texas, in 1975. They enjoyed retirement there until moving to Kalispell in February 2004 to be near their daughter, Judy and her husband, Herb Anderson.
Evan was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Waldo Emerson Schear and Geneva Nichols Schear; a brother and sister; and his daughter, Diane.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Schear; daughter, Judith Ann Anderson, and her husband, Herb; four grandchildren, Victoria Jones of Powell, Ohio, Christine Anderson of Fort Collins, Colo., Kathryn Jones and husband, Brian, of Nampa, Idaho, and Dr. Herbert E.S. Anderson of Frenchtown; and two great-granddaughters, Megan and Allison Jones, of Powell, Ohio.
Evan was a born leader, but more importantly he was a good, honest person who always wanted to do the right thing. He always said a job worth doing was worth doing well. If someone needed help, Evan was always ready to lend a hand or provide some direction.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed.
