Samuel Serge 'Sam' Shevenko, 92

Samuel Serge "Sam" Shevenko, 92, died Tuesday, March 15, 2005, at Heritage Place in Kalispell. He was born Oct. 28, 1912, in China to John and Pauline (Apolenarea) Shevenko.

Sam moved to the Ukraine as an infant and was raised there until he was 15. At that time his family came to Canada, then to the United States. He attended school in Walhalla, N.D., then moved to Whitefish.

It was in Whitefish that he met Eunice Bonner and they married Aug. 20, 1956, at Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

He was a shoe craftsman, repairing and custom-making shoes. He started learning shoe repair while a boy at age 9 in Russia (the Ukraine).

He and Eunice traveled extensively throughout the world, enjoying their travels. Sam also enjoyed gardening, fishing, and visiting with family and friends.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

He is now survived by his wife, Eunice Shevenko, of Kalispell; also nephews in Eureka; Rock Creek, Ohio; and Dearborn, Mich.; with many nieces and a nephew in Germany and the Ukraine.

Funeral services for Samuel Shevenko will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 21, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Monday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. prior to the service at Johnson Mortuary.
