Two of Flathead Valley Community College's three open trustee positions attracted opponents for Tuesday's school election.

Incumbent board chairman Bob Nystuen was the only candidate to file for the seat representing the Flathead High School District.

The remaining two seats attracted incumbents Tom Harding and Jeanne Tallman and two challengers: Kenny Parks and Paul Holland.

The four candidates seek the seats representing the Columbia Falls, Bigfork and Whitefish high school districts.

Parks, a Bigfork resident, said he hoped to bring his expertise in business and finance to the trustee position. Parks moved to the valley seven years ago but has earlier ties to the valley from childhood summers spent here with his family.

Parks is a self-employed financial planner.

Holland, who is from Bigfork, also filed for the seat. He did not return a call from the Daily Inter Lake requesting information on his candidacy.

Tallman, a Whitefish resident, said she wanted to continue serving on the board to see the campus expansion through to completion. She called her service exciting and rewarding.

Harding also said he wanted to serve another term on the board to see the new buildings through to completion. A Whitefish resident, he works at Home Depot.
