Carl Anton Simon, 59

Carl Anton Simon, 59, passed away Tuesday, May 17, 2005, at Colonial Manor in Whitefish.

He was born June 10, 1945, in Spring Valley, Minn., the 10th child of Hugh A "Tony" Simon and Ellen Anna (Rafoth) Simon. He was named for his brother, Anton Carl, who was killed in action April 3, 1945. Carl attended local schools in Spring Valley, until 1956, when the family moved to the Dodge Pine Creek, Wis., area. He graduated from Arcadia High School in 1963.

He joined the Navy, the seventh of eight brothers to serve their country and served four years as a hospital corpsman. He ran a business in Dodge, Wis., for four years then re-enlisted in the Navy where he served honorably for 20 years, retiring in 1991. He then moved to Kalispell, where he made his home.

Carl was a life member of Disabled American Veterans where he served as commander of Chapter 4, Kalispell, judge-advocate and second junior vice-commander of the State of Montana state department of the D.A.V. He was also a member of the American Legion.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, James, Anton, and William.

He is mourned by four brothers, Eugene Simon of Spring Valley, Theodore Simon and wife, Meredith, of Menominee, Wis., Jerry Simon and wife, Winifred, of Spring Valley, and brother Clair St. Simon of Red Cloud Indian School in Pine Ridge, S.D; two sisters, Helen Eggler with husband, Weldon, of Cameron, Wis., and Ann Heppelmann and husband, Richard, of Bellechester, Minn.; also a special friend, Valerie J. Milie of Pittsburgh; with nieces, nephews and friends all around the world.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, at Johnson Mortuary Chapel with burial in Columbia Falls.

The family suggests memorials be sent to the D.A.V. State of Montana Transportation Fund, toward the purchase of new vans for veteran transportation.
