Whitefish mayor to seek a fourth term
Whitefish Mayor Andy Feury said Thursday he'll run for a fourth term as mayor.
Feury has a long history with the Whitefish City Council, serving as a council member for seven years before being elected mayor in 2000. He also served on the Whitefish City-County Planning Board in the early 1990s and was a Park Board member.
"I'm quite excited," he said. "There's so much going on here. I'm as enthused as I ever have been."
He cited the creation of two new city departments - legal services and planning - as an important project at hand, and said he wants to continue to be involved with projects such as city bike paths and growth issues.
Feury owns Feury and Co., a lumber and land brokerage firm. He also is a partner in Western Pacific Plastics and is part owner of his family's wheat farm near Fargo, N.D.
Filing opened May 2 for city positions.
In addition to the two-year mayor's post, three City Council seats are up for grabs in Whitefish. The terms of council members Doug Adams, Erik Garberg and Mark Wagner expire this year.
Garberg and Wagner said they don't plan to run for re-election. Adams was unavailable for comment.
No one has filed yet for the four-year council positions.
The city of Whitefish requires candidates to turn in a certain number of signatures of registered city voters along with an application. Council candidates need 33 signatures; mayoral candidates need 30 signatures.
The filing deadline is June 30.
The position of Whitefish city judge is also open. Bradley Johnson is the current judge.
