C-Falls 2nd, 3rd in state track

GREAT FALLS - Columbia Falls capitalized on some strong second-day performances Saturday to place second in the boys competition and third for the girls at the Class A state track meet at Memorial Stadium.

Coltrip won the boys title, 68 points, with Columbia Falls next with 45 and Whitefish third with 43.

Libby placed fifth with 36.

Anaconda edged Belgrade for the girls crown, 64-60, with Columbia Falls third, 52, and Bigfork fourth, 45.

Columbia Falls had three individuals winners on the final day. Bekah Stoltz won the discus (133-5), Cassie Stoneman the triple jump (34-11) and Devin Schmit the 800 (1:54.31).

Schmit also placed second in the 400.

Stoltz finished the meet with two firsts, winning the javelin on Friday.

Chris Hicks of Whitefish had the winning distance in the triple jump (45-1/2), giving him three firsts. On Friday he won the long jump and high jump.

Brooke Andrus of Bigfork won the 1,600 (5:10.23), giving her three state titles. She won the 3,200 and 800 on Friday.

Also Saturday, Kari Mowbray of Polson won the pole vault (10-9) and Blaine Baker of Libby the javelin (212-1).
