Charles B. 'Chuck' Rogers, 89
Charles B. "Chuck" Rogers, 89, passed away on Friday, May 27, 2005, at his home in Rollins.
He was born on July 5, 1915, at Groton, S.D., the son of William J. and Cecilia (Freiley) Rogers.
Chuck was a logger, school bus driver and a store owner. He was also a 50-year member of the Eagles Lodge. He enjoyed horses, gardening, ice-fishing, and playing cribbage.
He was raised in Rapid City, South Dakota and moved to Montana in 1934, and resided in Kalispell and Rollins. He was united in marriage to Mamie on Nov. 17, 1966, at Lakeside.
He was a self-employed logger for 23 years, a school bus driver for 10 years and owned and operated the Rollins store and Post Office. He retired in 1982.
Chuck helped organize and served as fire chief for several years, after which he remained a very active member of the Rollins Volunteer Fire Department. During his logging days, he helped organize the first Loggers Association. Chuck enjoyed camping and belonging to the Flathead Good Sam's Club, where he served as president. In his last years, he especially loved teaching cribbage to the fourth graders of Lakeside.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Anthony and James Rogers; and six brothers and sisters, Louise Rahder, Joseph Rogers, Agnes Rogers, Frank Rogers, Bill Rogers, and a brother who passed away at birth.
He is survived by his wife, Mamie, of Rollins; sons, Patrick and Dalice Rogers of Deer Lodge, Brian Rogers of Kalispell, Loren Nelson of Kalispell and Marvin Nelson of Rollins; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Chuck is also survived by six brothers and sisters, Clem Rogers of Hawaii, Margaret Fuhrman of Arizona, Art Rogers of California, Monica Bosch and Josephine Kirchgesler, both of South Dakota, and Pat Evans of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Charles Rogers will be held 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 1, at Lakeside Chapel with Pastor John Ulrich officiating. Urn burial will follow at 2 p.m. at C.E. Conrad Memorial Cemetery in Kalispell. There will no visitation at the family's request.
The family suggests that memorials be sent to Rollins Volunteer Fire Department, Lakeside Building Fund, or Quick Response Unit (QRU) of Lakeside.
