Libby falls short; Frenchtown rolls to title

POLSON - Libby's bats fell silent Saturday as the Loggers were eliminated from the Class A state softball tournament on the final morning of play.

Corvallis pitcher Amber Wilson checked Libby on two hits as the Blue Devils posted a 4-0 loser-out victory.

Libby had won three-straight games on Friday to stay alive in tournament action. During that run, the Loggers banged out 36 hits and scored 33 runs.

Frenchtown, 18-9, downed Laurel 2-0 to captured the state title. The Broncs finished the three-day event with a 5-0 mark and did not yield a run.

Ashley Block pitched the Broncs to all five victories, raising her season record to 14-7. She also had a perfect game at the plate, going 3-for-3 and driving in a run.

Frenchtown also blanked Laurel 3-0 earlier Saturday, pitting the last two unbeaten tournament teams.

Corvallis was eliminated by Laurel 3-0, which gave the Locomotives another shot at Frenchtown in the championship game.
