Folk trio brings hazy harmonies to Whitefish

Vancouver musicians 'hypnotic'

From Vancouver, British Columbia comes a beguiling trio of women with an uncanny knack of digging the soul out of every song they play.

The Be Good Tanyas will perform on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 8 p.m. at the OShaughnessy Center in Whitefish as part of the Whitefish Theatre Companys World Music Series.

The Be Good Tanyas are Frazey Ford, Trish Klein and Samantha Parton. Bonded by their passion for old-time music and their love of vintage clothes, they began touring and performing together in 1999.

After a road tour across America in a 1977 Dodge Van, they came home to record their debut album Blue Horse. After its release, they toured around North America, Australia and the United Kingdom with their lush harmonies and raw soul delivery.

Chinatown, the follow-up release, charms with its lack of pretension. . .The original tunes are breathtaking, but its the trios ability to completely inhabit other peoples material that amazes according to Sarah Liss of NowToronto.com.

Dave Grierson of CBC Radio says of The Be Good Tanyas: Every so often you come across a sound that stops you in its tracks and simply makes you listen. Hypnotic. Simple, in the very best sense. Direct.

Tickets are $24 with reserved seating.

To purchase tickets, call 862-5371 or stop by the box office from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday and two hours before a performance. For more information visit www.whitefishtheatreco.org
