Malmin to coach Lakers

Kalispell Lakers baseball has hired Ryan Malmin as the team's new AA head coach.

Malmin has been the head coach of the Glasgow Reds for the last eight years. He is a graduate of Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., where he was a pitcher for the Cobbers.

Malmin is a Whitefish native and played American Legion baseball for the Glacier Twins. He also coached the Twins A team for one season.

Malmin replaces Mike McFarland, who retired after three years as the Lakers AA head coach.

McFarland lead the Lakers to a Montana State AA Tournament playoff spot at the end of the 2005 season.
