A Missoula firm was the only company to submit a bid for a major roof-replacement project at the Flathead County Justice Center.

The project is intended to prevent leaks.

The 21,000-square-foot roof currently leaks around its edges and seams. County Building Superintendent Jed Fisher said this repair job will replace the existing roofing material with a thick plastic liner. The liner will also be covered with small rocks and tar.

Summit Roofing submitted the sole bid - $66,000, which includes an option for a thicker liner and a 20-year warranty.

Fisher said that was well below the engineering estimate for the job.

After reviewing the bid, the county commissioners could award the contract or decide to re-bid the job, in the hopes of getting more responses.

The HVAC system in the Justice Center also needs to be replaced. That project, which has not been scheduled, is expected to cost about $520,000.
