Yellow Bay club hosts sale today

The Yellow Bay Community Club has its 22nd annual rummage/craft/bake sale from 9 am. to 4 p.m. today at the Yellow Bay Clubhouse, Montana 35 at mile marker 18.

Sale tables will have household and handcrafted items, clothing, children's wear and toys, antiques, books, tools, homemade baked goods, jams and jellies, and locally grown fruit and vegetables.

The women's auxiliary will serve a chili lunch. Call Jackie at 982-3437.

Stand-down starts today for veterans

Northwest Montana Veterans Stand Down 2005 gets under way today and Sunday at VFW Post 1548, 108 W. Second St., in Libby. The hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

Bring your discharge Veterans Affairs cards or military identifications. Physical- and mental-health providers and employment counselors will be on hand, as well as a VA claims officer and other veterans representatives. Free haircuts, lunch, coffee and snacks will be offered. Free camping and disabled parking will be available. Surplus military clothing also will be given away. Call Allen W. Help hurricane victims, family

Go to the Paddle and Axe, 10 Central Ave., in Whitefish today for a fund-raiser for two causes - relief for the victims of Hurricane Katrina and for the Mosers, a local family with five young children whose mother has been diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor.

A Cajun fish fry and wine tasting starts at 6 p.m. with dinner music by Miles Middlesniffer and the Squonks, and a silent auction. A live auction gets under way at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the evening are $20 each.

Or come later for live dance music beginning at 9:30 p.m. by the bands Supro and Moving Lucy. Tickets for post-dining are $7 at the door.

Adopt a cat or kitten today

The Cat Adoption Center at the Flathead Spay and Neuter Clinic has cats and kittens available for adoption from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and Oct. 8.

All cats have been abandoned or are strays, have been spayed or neutered and vaccinated, and are well socialized. The adoption fee is $25 a cat. Orchestra takes stage in Bigfork

The Don Lawrence Orchestra takes the stage for Oktoberfest from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Pope John Paul II Catholic Church in Bigfork.

Come for the dancing and for the brats, sauerkraut and other German food fare.

Tickets are available at the door and are $10 for adults; $4 for children ages 4 to 12; and free for children younger than 4.

Everyone is also invited to the "Polka Mass" at 10:30 Sunday morning.

Pro-life chain is Sunday in Kalispell

Flathead ProLife sponsors a "life chain" on Sunday. Gather just before 2 p.m. at the intersection of U.S. 93 and U.S. 2 in Kalispell. Signs supporting pro-life will be provided for participants. Bring a lawn chair if you are unable to stand for one hour.

Church benefit helps missionaries

The Whitefish Assembly of God is holding a live, silent auction at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Whitefish Central School gym.

Proceeds benefit "Speed the Light," a national organization that purchases equipment for missionaries around the world.

All items for auction are new, unless they are considered collectibles.

Prestige hosts free fall festival today

Prestige Assisted Living invites the community to its fall festival from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. today. Food and beverages will be available. The Montana Fiddlers will provide entertainment. Children can participate in face-painting, a cake walk, crafts, and the Jump and Play Moonwalk. The event is free.
