The Going to the Sun Road between Avalanche and Rising Sun will remain closed throughout the weekend, according to Amy Vanderbilt, Glacier National Park spokesperson.

"There are two sections above the East Side Tunnel where there's been water running over the road and undercutting, so there are some concerns about the integrity of that outer lane," she said. "It will need to be inspected by federal highway engineers."

As of Saturday evening, road crews had been unable to blast a boulder off a section of road between the Loop and Logan Pass.

"Our crews have reported that someone did make it up to Logan Pass and they described water running down the middle of the road with standing water in many places," Vanderbilt said.

The St. Mary's Lake campground - closed Friday night as a precautionary measure - was reopened Saturday and there have been no reports of any flooding on the east side of the park.

"There are still sections of the road open - between West Glacier and up to Avalanche, which is 16 miles for vehicles, as well as the east side up to Rising Sun from St. Mary, which is six miles. All other roads remain open in the park," she said.
