HAMILTON - The Ronan girls and Hamilton boys both won team titles Saturday at the Hamilton Invitational cross country meet.

Ronan, with three in the top 10, finished with a 37 team total. Whitefish was second, 88, and Polson third, 103.

Columbia Falls placed eighth, 186.

"We were happy with our race," said WHS coach Bill Brist.

"At least we're throwing a couple of individuals at them (Ronan Maidens)."

Hamilton had three runners in the top 11 spots and totaled 69 points. Dillon was second, 73, and Ronan third, 94.

Columbia Falls was fifth, 141, Polson sixth, 148, and Whitefish eighth, 194.

Brooke Andrus of Bigfork was the top individual finisher for area teams, placing second in 18:21. Whitefish's Beth Donovan was fourth, 19:43.

"That was a pretty good deal for us," said Brist of Donovan's showing.

"That was the first time she went out and chased after the lead group. That was cool."

For the boys, Logan Torgison of Polson finished fourth, 16:33. The individual winner was Michael Fisher of Ronan, 16:00.

Drew Coco led the WHS boys, placing 12th.

"Another personal best," said Brist of Coco's 17:03 time.

"He's knocking on 16 (minutes). That's outstanding for a freshman."

Columbia Falls' top performers were Brian Marseal, 18th, 17:15; and Nikki Elek, 32nd, 22:19.

Elek led the Wildkats for the second straight week.

"Considering we had homecoming last night, many of our kids were operating on very little sleep," said Columbia Falls coach Steve Gasche of his girls.

"I thought the kids reached down deep for whatever they had left."

Columbia Falls boys coach Richard Menicke said despite a week of tough training, four of his runners still had lifetime best times in Hamilton.

"They're continuing to improve," he said.

"I was really pleased."
