Engineer to study Sun Road damage

The alpine section of Going-to-the-Sun Road between Avalanche and Rising Sun remains closed from last week's heavy rainfall that caused mudslides, rock fall and clogged culverts.

Water damage to one section east of Logan Pass will require an engineering evaluation.

This alpine section will remain closed until further notice; park management can't predict when this portion of the road will reopen.

Road crews continue to make progress and additional portions of the alpine section will be opened as conditions allow. The section from Avalanche to the Loop may open within the next two days.

The remainder of Sun Road and all other park roadways are open for 24-hour travel.

Park officials had briefly opened a section on the east side from Rising Sun to Jackson Glacier Overlook, but were forced to close that section again Tuesday due to snow. Up
